Treating Dynamic Wrinkles with Botox Injections

Treating Dynamic Wrinkles

One of the first signs of aging skin is the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. And one of the ways to make these fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable is to turn to injectables like Botox. Botox can help you get the smoother, younger-looking skin you want.

At Rejuvené MD, we offer Botox injections to treat dynamic wrinkles. Learn more about these wrinkles and how Botox can help.

What Are Dynamic Wrinkles?

Elastin and collagen are two crucial proteins in your body. They perform numerous functions, and one of these is to keep your skin firm and hydrated. As you age, however, the production of these proteins decreases, making your skin less flexible.

When that occurs, your skin can’t bounce back from expressions like smiling and frowning the same as it could when you were younger, so these dynamic expressions start leaving marks on your face. Some of the most common dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Eyebrow lines
  • Smile lines

Unlike static wrinkles, you can only see dynamic wrinkles when you make an expression.

How Botox Injections Help

Botox is a minimally invasive injectable made from the botulinum bacterium. It works by interrupting the signals your brain sends to your muscles, telling them to contract. By temporarily preventing such contractions, Botox makes your skin appear smoother.

Botox can diminish a few different types of wrinkles, including:

  • Glabellar lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smile lines
  • Chin lines
  • Neck lines
  • Forehead lines

By teaching your muscles to be softer, Botox treatments can also help prevent wrinkles in the future. That’s why people who are still in their 20s have begun to turn to Botox.

The best candidates for Botox injections are those who are over 18 years old, who are in good overall health, who are not allergic to the ingredients, and who have realistic expectations.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have preexisting muscle weakness, have very thick skin, have bleeding disorders, or have unrealistic expectations, you may not be the best candidate for Botox treatments. We will do our best to find alternative options to help you achieve your goals.

Benefits of Botox Treatments

Botox injections are minimally invasive. Unlike other types of aging treatments, you do not have to worry about a long recovery time. The injection process is a quick one. Many of our clients get Botox treatments during their lunch breaks and return to work immediately afterward.

Another benefit of Botox injections is that they are more affordable than other, more invasive cosmetic procedures.

Botox also produces almost immediate results. Within a few days, you can enjoy smoother, younger-looking skin.

Preparing for Botox Injections

To get ready for your Botox injections, the first thing you want to do is schedule a consultation with us. During this initial appointment, we’ll assess the treatment area and get your full medical history.

It’s essential that we know about any allergies you have, medications or supplements you take, and whether you have had previous cosmetic procedures.

Before your Botox injections, we ask that you stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other blood-thinning medications. If you take supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, or St. John’s Wort, you also want to stop taking them a few days before the injections.

Stop drinking alcohol at least two days before your Botox appointment and stop using nicotine products as well. You should also stay out of the sun without protection and avoid chemical peels and other similar skin treatments—all of which can make your skin more sensitive.

Before your Botox injections, avoid abrasive skin care products.

Injections and Aftercare

On the day of your Botox treatment, come to your appointment with a clean face. Don’t wear makeup or apply creams or lotions to the treatment area.

We will cleanse your face and begin the injections. If you prefer, we will give you a topical anesthetic.

The entire procedure takes about ten minutes, and then you are free to return to your regular day.

Although there is no downtime associated with Botox injections, you still want to remember a few things. Do not rub, scratch, or massage the treatment area because this can spread the Botox. You want to let it settle.

If you get injections between the brows, you should avoid lying down or bending over for at least four hours after your treatment is complete.

You also want to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours. Additionally, do not expose yourself to extreme heat, like what you would find in a sauna, hot tub, or even a hot bath.

Botox injections can offer results in as little as one day, though for some people, the full results can take almost a week to appear. The effects can last for up to four months, so we can always schedule the next appointment around that time so that you can maintain your results and prevent future wrinkles.
